Microsoft revealed : Windows 10 Phones And Tablets With Octo-core CPUs And Very Powerful GPUs Are Expected Soon

This year Game Developers Conference (GDC 2015) is going to be held in San Francisco, CA, United States on March 2nd. Yesterday in one of the session  “Sustained Gaming Performance in Multi-Core Mobile Devices” at GDC 2015 Microsoft has revealed that Windows 10 phones and tablets with octacore CPUs and having very powerful GPUs are coming soon. Octo-core CPUs are already very common in Android eco-system and it will be soon supported in Windows 10 devices too.

Session Description:

Modern mobile devices and smartphones are reaching the computing capabilities reserved until recently for desktop PCs. Windows 10 phones and tablets with 8 CPUs and very powerful GPUs are expected soon. Despite significant progress in reducing power consumption these devices are able to draw more power under sustained load than can be safely dissipated with current passive cooling technologies. Windows 10 and the hardware it runs on are designed to safely handle such situations, mostly by reducing the system performance – which could affect game-play negatively. Learn to counter this effect by designing games that achieve sustained thermal-to-quality tradeoffs in these systems.

Amazon launches a corporate email and calendar service called WorkMail

Today Amazon launches its corporate email and calendar service called WorkMail to take on Microsoft and Google, Forbes contributor Ben Kepes reports. CEO of Amazon quotes that:

Customers are not happy with their current email solution,” Adam Selipsky, an executive with Amazon Web Services, told the Wall Street Journal. “A lot of customers feel those solutions are expensive and complex.

WorkMail can be seen as an extension of a couple of recent AWS products that have had much more of an “end user” feel than its usual cloud computing solutions. Amazon WorkSpaces, a Desktop as a Service (DaaS) solution and Amazon Zocalo, AWS’ file sharing and synchronization product aimed squarely at competing with Box or Dropbox, are both much more mass market than other AWS products. WorkMail takes these and extends them further. I spent time talking with Thomas Döhler, General Manager of the Amazon WorkMail team, about the rationale for the product and what it does.

AWS is pushing Amazon WorkMail as a secure solution. Leveraging the company’s Key Management Service (KMS), WorkMail data can be encrypted with customer-managed keys. In the event that customer-supplied keys are not being used, WorkMail data is encrypted by KMS with an AWS-supplied key. AWS is also delivering on organizations’ demands for specificity around the location of their data – users can specify where their Amazon WorkMail data will be stored – both for lower latency and regional compliance reasons. At this stage an organization can only chose one location, rather than splitting users’ WorkMail data dependent on location, but that additional feature is likely to be added over time.

In terms of pricing, Amazon WorkMail costs $4 per user per month for a 50GB mailbox. Bundled with Zocalo it is priced at $6 per user per month for 50GB of mail and 200GB of Zocalo file storage. The product is slated to launch in Q2 of 2015.

WeChat Arrives for Windows PC

WeChat has finally launched a desktop client for Windows PC users, nearly a year after the introduction of its client for Macs

WhatsApp launched its Web client last week, in order to get started with WeChat for PC, you’ll need to scan a QR code from within the mobile app. Once your phone is linked to your computer, messages will be mirrored across both devices, but alerts will only show on your computer.

The PC version is only available in Chinese. Unfortunately, any stickers you’ve accumulated don’t get synced to the PC version, but you can view stickers sent to you from others.

If downloading another program to your computer just feels like too much effort, you can, of course, still use the Web-based WeChat client from any operating system.

So, it can be said that HTC has very tough competition to make it a big hit in the Indian markets .

Yesterday, Acer CEO Jason Chen has confirmed that his company is planning to launch Windows phones and will showcase the products at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015. He also confirmed that Acer will continue to mainly focus on the entry-level segment and does not have a plan to launch high-end smartphone devices.

According to company CEO Jason Chen.

Acer is planning to launch Windows-based smartphones and will showcase the products at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, pairing with its Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) platform, said Chen during the company's supply chain conference on January 22.

He pointed out at Acer's suppliers including Quanta computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Pegatron Technology have all participated in the conference.

He revealed that the company has recently been approached by a high-end smartphone vendor for a takever of Acer's handset business. Although Acer does not rule out the possibility of a merger for its handset business, it will continue to operate the business as usual in the meantime.

Other than Nokia (now Microsoft Mobile), no other Windows Phone OEM has made a significant impact in the market. Hopefully, Acer will be able to break the jinx at MWC this year.

Google confirmed Fiber for four major metropolitan areas

Google has confirmed the next cities to receive its high-speed Google Fiber gigabit internet and TV service. As per the blog post from the company, 18 cities across four major metropolitan areas Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, and Raleigh-Durham will be the next to receive Google Fiber.

Launching across all four of these metropolitan areas makes this probably the biggest break through of Google Fiber yet .Google says that its next step is to work with the cities to design a plan and map for exactly how and where it will be able to install the network. That planning process should be done in the coming months.

This announcement comes at a time when the definition of broadband is coming under examination , President Obama said recently that he will make increase the cheaper and high speed internet a priority. But cable companies recently reacted negatively to a new FCC proposal that would rehear broadband at 25Mbps downloads and 3Mbps uploads. As a result of that protest , it is clear that some companies, consumers and the government thinks that United States needs to stop lagging behind apart of other countries in the world.  Google getting fiber out to more customers is a way to improve the situation.

Cortana in Windows 10 is only for those people who lives i United States and if you are living outside the US  and have downloaded the latest Technical Preview of Windows 10 build 9926, you may have noticed that Cortana, one of the biggest new features present in the build, will not work for you, at least not officially.

Gabe Aul has recently confirmed on Twitter that Cortana will officially come in other regions and languages in future preview builds, but there is a way for you to test it right now, although it is limited to using English when communicating with the digital personal assistant.

To get it working, all you have to do is change Region and Language settings. To do this, go to the desktop control panel, and select "Clock, Language, and Region" from the right-hand side. Then click on Region and change the following:

  • In the "Formats" tab, set format as English (United States)
  • In the "Location" tab, set Home Location as United States
  • In the "Administrative" tab, set Current System Locale to English (United States)

Restart your PC, and when you click Cortana, she'll be happy to assist you. You need to sign in with your Microsoft account, and tell her what you’d like her to call you. Once you're done, use the microphone or keyboard to interact, and you can also enable "Hey Cortana" by following our guide here.

To make life easier for non-native speakers who wish to speak to Cortana, there's a setting that compensates a bit for phonetic differences in pronunciation. To activate it go in the Settings app, choose System -> Speech -> set Speech-language as English (U.S.), then tick the box that says "Use speech patterns for non-native speakers of this language".

How to enable a hidden clock and calendar in Windows 10 new build 9926

In Microsoft new build of Windows 10 there are few features which are not enabled by default but with a simple registry trick, you can able to use those hidden features. We just found another hidden items i.e the clock and calendar widget.

If you want to enable this feature in your install of Windows 10, it's quite easy, if you know how to tweak the registry. With that being said, only proceed if you have experience adding values to the registry because if you do this incorrectly, it can break your install of Windows 10.

  • Open Regedit.exe
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
  • Right click and select New - > DWORD (32-bit) and call it UseWin32TrayClockExperience with no spaces, exactly as written.
  • Click on the clock in the system tray

Once completed, you will be able to see the new calendar and clock. Other than the new UI, there is not much else to the feature but seeing that it is polished, we expect this to arrive in the final release of Windows 10.

How to enable a new hidden log in screen in Windows 10 9926

In Microsoft new build of Windows 10 there are few features which are not enabled by default but with a simple registry trick, you can able to use those hidden features. We just heard from the Neowin that they found some of the hidden items like, the clock and calendar widget, and now the new user login screen too.

If you want to enable this hidden log-in screen feature in your Windows 10, it's quite easy if you know how to play with the registry. With that being said, only proceed if you have experience adding values to the registry because if you do this incorrectly, it can break your install of Windows 10.

Follow the steps below to enable the new login screen in Windows 10 build 9926:

  • Open Regedit.exe
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\TestHooks
  • Double click on 'Threshold' and change the value to 1
  • Close Regedit.exe

After making the edit, you can go back to the login screen and see the updated visuals that include a new location for the lock-screen icons and a round user icon too. There does not appear to be any significant new functionality yet, but it's clear the UI elements have been updated when compared to Windows 8.

Directly upgrade your PC from Windows 7 or 8 to latest build of Windows 10

Once the OS launches later this year, Microsoft announced that all users who are using- Windows 8 and Windows 7 would receive a free upgrade to Windows 10 . With the release of the January Technical Preview, Microsoft is testing one of those systems.

For those who are using Windows 7 or 8.1, that have so far stayed away from the technical previews of the new OS, there’s a new way which allows you to upgrade your devices: Windows Update. The process is simple and the system will install a whole new version of Windows as if it were like a regular update.

For starters, those interested need to go to insider.windows.com  to enable their machines to see the new version of the OS. After that, manually check for updates – we prefer using Control Panel for this, but PC Settings should work fine.

Updating can take a pretty long while, especially as Microsoft's servers are currently under heavy stress and because WU traditionally tries to not use up system resources. So make sure to give it a good long while - it took us a full 6 hours, though most of that was due to slow servers.

After the update is downloaded and unpacked, you'll need to restart your PC, after which it goes into the regular update process you'd go through with an ISO.

You'll find all you programs still working and most of your settings are still saved, so this should be an almost painless experience. Of course that's as long as you don't run into any of the common bugs.

Did you upgrade your machines ? If yes then share your experiences in comments below.

How to enable Cortana in Windows 10

personal digital assistant- Cortana

Microsoft's personal digital assistant is Cortana, previously it is only for the Windows Phone but it is for PC too. If you are trying to use the new 'Hey Cortana' feature on your PCs and it is not working, we can help you out. This feature is turned off by default and you need to enable it so you can begin talking to the personal digital assistant.

To enable 'Hey Cortana', open Cortana and click the hamburger button in the top left of the window and go to settings. At the bottom of the window, you will see the 'Hey Cortana' setting that you need to enable.

After you enable this feature, Say "Hey Cortana" and then you need to say your question or statement right after you say "Hey Cortana", do not wait for the app to open. If you wait too long, Cortana stays open and does not respond to the next words you say unless you say "Hey Cortana" again. Also, typing in your questions does not appear to be working nearly as well as spoken questions.
