Acer will launch New Windows Phone Devices At MWC

Last year the Acer product roadmap includes a line-up of Windows Phones and it will start sales in the first half of 2015. Yesterday, Acer CEO Jason Chen has confirmed that his company is planning to launch Windows phones and will showcase the products at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015. He also confirmed that Acer will continue to mainly focus on the entry-level segment and does not have a plan to launch high-end smartphone devices.

According to company CEO Jason Chen.

Acer is planning to launch Windows-based smartphones and will showcase the products at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, pairing with its Build Your Own Cloud (BYOC) platform, said Chen during the company's supply chain conference on January 22.

He pointed out at Acer's suppliers including Quanta computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Pegatron Technology have all participated in the conference.

He revealed that the company has recently been approached by a high-end smartphone vendor for a takever of Acer's handset business. Although Acer does not rule out the possibility of a merger for its handset business, it will continue to operate the business as usual in the meantime.

Other than Nokia (now Microsoft Mobile), no other Windows Phone OEM has made a significant impact in the market. Hopefully, Acer will be able to break the jinx at MWC this year.
