How to enable a hidden clock and calendar in Windows 10 new build 9926

In Microsoft new build of Windows 10 there are few features which are not enabled by default but with a simple registry trick, you can able to use those hidden features. We just found another hidden items i.e the clock and calendar widget.

If you want to enable this feature in your install of Windows 10, it's quite easy, if you know how to tweak the registry. With that being said, only proceed if you have experience adding values to the registry because if you do this incorrectly, it can break your install of Windows 10.

  • Open Regedit.exe
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
  • Right click and select New - > DWORD (32-bit) and call it UseWin32TrayClockExperience with no spaces, exactly as written.
  • Click on the clock in the system tray

Once completed, you will be able to see the new calendar and clock. Other than the new UI, there is not much else to the feature but seeing that it is polished, we expect this to arrive in the final release of Windows 10.

How to enable a new hidden log in screen in Windows 10 9926

In Microsoft new build of Windows 10 there are few features which are not enabled by default but with a simple registry trick, you can able to use those hidden features. We just heard from the Neowin that they found some of the hidden items like, the clock and calendar widget, and now the new user login screen too.

If you want to enable this hidden log-in screen feature in your Windows 10, it's quite easy if you know how to play with the registry. With that being said, only proceed if you have experience adding values to the registry because if you do this incorrectly, it can break your install of Windows 10.

Follow the steps below to enable the new login screen in Windows 10 build 9926:

  • Open Regedit.exe
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\TestHooks
  • Double click on 'Threshold' and change the value to 1
  • Close Regedit.exe

After making the edit, you can go back to the login screen and see the updated visuals that include a new location for the lock-screen icons and a round user icon too. There does not appear to be any significant new functionality yet, but it's clear the UI elements have been updated when compared to Windows 8.

Directly upgrade your PC from Windows 7 or 8 to latest build of Windows 10

Once the OS launches later this year, Microsoft announced that all users who are using- Windows 8 and Windows 7 would receive a free upgrade to Windows 10 . With the release of the January Technical Preview, Microsoft is testing one of those systems.

For those who are using Windows 7 or 8.1, that have so far stayed away from the technical previews of the new OS, there’s a new way which allows you to upgrade your devices: Windows Update. The process is simple and the system will install a whole new version of Windows as if it were like a regular update.

For starters, those interested need to go to insider.windows.com  to enable their machines to see the new version of the OS. After that, manually check for updates – we prefer using Control Panel for this, but PC Settings should work fine.

Updating can take a pretty long while, especially as Microsoft's servers are currently under heavy stress and because WU traditionally tries to not use up system resources. So make sure to give it a good long while - it took us a full 6 hours, though most of that was due to slow servers.

After the update is downloaded and unpacked, you'll need to restart your PC, after which it goes into the regular update process you'd go through with an ISO.

You'll find all you programs still working and most of your settings are still saved, so this should be an almost painless experience. Of course that's as long as you don't run into any of the common bugs.

Did you upgrade your machines ? If yes then share your experiences in comments below.

How to enable Cortana in Windows 10

personal digital assistant- Cortana

Microsoft's personal digital assistant is Cortana, previously it is only for the Windows Phone but it is for PC too. If you are trying to use the new 'Hey Cortana' feature on your PCs and it is not working, we can help you out. This feature is turned off by default and you need to enable it so you can begin talking to the personal digital assistant.

To enable 'Hey Cortana', open Cortana and click the hamburger button in the top left of the window and go to settings. At the bottom of the window, you will see the 'Hey Cortana' setting that you need to enable.

After you enable this feature, Say "Hey Cortana" and then you need to say your question or statement right after you say "Hey Cortana", do not wait for the app to open. If you wait too long, Cortana stays open and does not respond to the next words you say unless you say "Hey Cortana" again. Also, typing in your questions does not appear to be working nearly as well as spoken questions.

Windows 10 for phones features revealed

Microsoft showed off a number of new features for Windows 10 on phones today, but in afternoon sessions at the company’s press event. Most of the demonstrations focused on improving the built-in apps and features of Windows Phone, and fixing a lot of the oddities. That includes mail, maps, photos, Skype, and messaging.

Mail is one of the biggest improvements to the built-in apps. Microsoft is building a universal Outlook app across Windows 10 phones, tablets, and PCs that seems to be a lot better than what came with Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.1. Word is built into the Outlook app, allowing you to author emails in a much richer way than before. This includes support for inserting tables and full text formatting. There’s also a number of new gestures here. You can swipe right to delete an email, or swipe left to flag it. These actions are then synced to the PC, so you can pick up your flagged email at a later date.

Calendar has also been improved here, and you’ll get full Gmail support across phones, tablets, and PCs. The same goes for IMAP, POP, Exchange, and various other web mail services. Microsoft is finally bringing a much more complete mail experience that includes full support for rival services. It’s a relief if you’re a Windows or Windows Phone user.

WhatsApp Web: Mobile messaging app launches the Web services

Today WhatsApp announced a web client that will enable users to use the world’s most popular mobile IM client on their PC and Macs. But this web Client works only in the Google Chrome browser.

The web client is simply an extension of your phone and the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device which means messages would remain on the phone as well.

To  connect your web browser to your WhatsApp client, you would first have to go to https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser. That will open a QR code that you would need to scan from WhatsApp on your phone to pair the two instances.
(In order to pair your phone with the web client, you need to install latest version of WhatsApp)

Here is what the Whatsapp announced:

"Today, for the first time, millions of you will have the ability to use WhatsApp on your web browser. Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device -- this means all of your messages still live on your phone.

To connect your web browser to your WhatsApp client, simply open https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser. You will see a QR code --- scan the code inside of WhatsApp, and you’re ready to go. You have now paired WhatsApp on your phone with the WhatsApp web client. Your phone needs to stay connected to the internet for our web client to work, and please make sure to install the latest version of WhatsApp on your phone. Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations.

How to Activate Cortana alpha version in India, Canada, and Australia

Yesterday, the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 started trickling for users who are on Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers. As the Windows Phone team at Microsoft shared a few days ago, the latest update brings Cortana to China and UK in beta and to India, Australia, and Canada in India.

This early adopter program for the latter is opt-in, and gives people the option to try Cortana using English language models from the US and the UK. Let's see how we can configure it for Windows Phone devices in these regions.

Here are the Steps to activate Cortana alpha version

Essentially, all you need to do is to change your speech settings to English US or UK. If any other permutation works, let us know in the comments.

  •     If you've changed region or language settings previously to try out Cortana when it released for the US, revert to the original settings for your country. A restart maybe required if you change these settings. If you haven't, confirm that the settings are in order.
  •         Language: English (India)/English (Canada)/English (Australia)
  •         Country/Region: India/Canada/Australia
  •     If you've not made any changes before, you'd need to start here and just change your speech settings.
  •                  Speech: English (United Kingdom)/English (United States)/English (United Kingdom)
