GOOGLE DRIVE- NEW APPS FOR YOU

Recently, google launched its dropbox competitor, offering up to 5Gb of free storage space, not to mention the ability to download files and sync folders on multiple computers. here are a few tips to have make effective use of GOOGLE DRIVE.

PREVENT FILES FROM DOWNLOADING

We all know sharing is a great collaboration feature on google drive (right from its google docs days), but how do you prevent someone form downloading the file onto there pcs? It's simple.

  • Open your google drive page in a browser window.
  • Either upload a file or look for an Email attachment you choose to save in a google drive.
  • Right-click on such a file for a context - sensitive menu to POP-UP.
  • Subsequently click on "prevent user from downloading " option.                                                {Note:- This feature works only with files that you have upload to google drive and not those converted to google docs format- for eg. word 2007 files, pdf, documents,etc.,upload "As Is " on google drive.}

SEND TO DRIVE

If you have to transfer files from your PCs onto a thumb drive, isn't right-clicking on the desired file and hitting "send to " in the resulting pop-up the easiest way to go about it? And how great would it be to have Google Drive as an option under the "send to" in the resulting pop-up men? Well, here's how to integrate Google Drive in the right-click context menu.

  • The first step is to download and install the Google Drive software on your pc and assign a Google Drive folder that will be synced with your Google account.
  • Next, access your windows PC's "send to" folder options.in windows 7,you can access it by going to
  •      C drive > users > (user profile ) > App Data > Roaming > Microsoft > Windows  > Send  to. You can also access it by typing                                                                                                        " % APP-DATA%/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/SENDTO" in start > Search programs and files field. Now all that remains to be done is dragging and dropping the physical Google Drive folder on your PC's to the "send to " folder.
  • Next time you right you right-click  a folder and mouse over on the "Send to" option at the bottom. This will make dropping files and syncing them with Google Drive a whole lot simpler.

SEND GMAIL ATTACHMENTS TO DRIVE AUTOMATICALLY
Imagine how convenient it would be to send a Gmail attachment you're viewing on your smartphone directly to your GOOGLE DRIVE FOLDER? It not only saves time, but also band-width. We found this amazing tip on labnol.org to do just that.
No extension are required and this works in both, the desktop and mobile versions of gmail and Google Drive. Here goes:
> Open the spreadsheet in your browser click on the "Gmail tab " on the top of the spreadsheet to initialize  the script . Authorize the script when it ask s for permission. Don't worry, adding the sheet to your goolgle drive doesn't compromise your Google credentials.
> Meanwhile, goto your Gmail inbox and create a new "Google Drive " Label.
> now go back to the spreadsheet and hit the "Gmail" tab again to run the script. If all goes well, you will see a success pop up message on the bottom right of the browser window.
> A new "Gmail" folder will be created in your google drive page. All the forwarded attachments will be visible under this folder.
> Next time you want to ship an attachment over to Google Drive automatically, just apply the "Google Drive" label to that email and nothing else, just ship back and witness the magic unfold.
